Abstract

Mixtures comprising of aqueous diethanolamine (DEA) and ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([emim][Tf2N]) were prepared and examined for their capability towards CO2 absorption. Aqueous diethanolamine (25 wt%) was mixed with 5 to 15% ionic liquid. The CO2 solubility experiments were performed at a pressure range of 100kPa to 1600KPa and at T = 298.15 K. The aqueous amine + IL mixtures showed lower values of CO2 absorption in comparison to aqueous diethanolamine solution.
